PaxLair Expands to Tokuno!
Category: Government
Occured on: Nov 20, 2004
PAXLAIR OUTPOST, HOMARE-JIMA, TOKUNO ISLANDS - PaxLair, one of the oldest player-towns on Chesapeake, recently expanded into the Tokuno Islands with an outpost open to the public. PaxLair's Chancellor Winfield stated this was done to continue PaxLair's long history of cooperation in the Realm.

PaxLair's outpost is located on Homare-jima southwest of the dangerous Kitsune Woods along the road. It sports a Tea House as its main gathering location, a Garden, and a Training Academy. (Tokuno Map Location)

PaxLair was established on January 19, 1998 in Felucca by guildmembers of The Band and built up by guilds like Sillyhood, the Olag Hai Orcs, and many individuals. For years it was a primary place of activity, events, and quests drawing interest by hundreds of people including seers, counselors, and at times the gods. Even Lord British [confirmed to be Richard Garriott] visited PaxLair. When the new facet of Trammel was created, many people migrated to those safer lands. PaxLair remained somewhat active for those who sought to defend and attack areas in and around PaxLair. In August 2004, Dragons Watch-Felucca was placed under the leadership of PaxLair. "PaxLair-Felucca and Dragons Watch-Felucca are not being abandoned [with the new Tea House]," said Chancellor Winfield, "but being connected to many other places of opportunity. In fact, those visiting the Tea House will see much history of earlier days in the realm, particularly on Felucca. There are replicas of the Spring of Courage, the Suffering Stone, and the Suicide Gate. Even recently, a strange phenomenon has plagued the Spring of Courage replica with ominous indications about Mazrim's old Tower of Souls. That is all a mystery right now."

"We do not make the Tea House into a museum, but more a living piece of many peoples' history, culture, and their futures," Winfield continued. "Something is always changing at the Tea House and in other places of the Outpost. Nothing is static. In fact, people of the Realm have already built new history at the Outpost. Many adventures start there and several things have happened in quests lately.

"For example, at times, an emergency response force is found at the Tea House helping adventurers back to life and to gather their belongings. Even more, this response force may 'party' some of these adventurers and when the force hears a death cry, they communicate with the dead adventurer and come to their aid wherever they are in the Islands. It is a wonderful idea and helps build respect and cooperation.

"Even further, The Gatekeeper, a player-quest master, arrived several times to take people into the wilderness and dungeons for specific objectives. A few days ago, The Gatekeeper appeared and instructed others to close a fissure between the Underworld and the Realm. The team found a miner-blacksmith at Skara Brae bank and invited him to aid in the quest. That smith, protected by the team, mined verite ore in Covetous Dungeon and then created a mighty katana in the Orc Dungeon. They brought the katana back to the Tea House where they found and closed the fissure. Of course, now another fissure has opened and engulfed the Spring of Courage there."

Over in PaxLair-Felucca, it was reported that PaxLair aided the Tournament of Champions' Pankration event led by Lord Ed McManus, CHAMPS. PaxLair gave temporary co-ownership of a northern tower to McManus for an outdoor, secure arena. PaxLair caretakers customized the tower specific to McManus' needs and observers already report the Tournament is a great success. This cooperation fuels many ideas for PaxLair-Felucca to also become a tournament town and one that can engage in cooperative PvP.

And Dragons Watch-Felucca is becoming a primary location for weekly adventures, town meetings, and festivals. Ocean excursions into Felucca are being planned by its primary residents of Army of The Dragon [ATD].

PaxLair continues to move forward promoting the building of communities and respect. To quote Chancellor Winfield when he was Mayor of PaxLair from 1998-2001, he said on July 27, 1999, "Dreams are not easy to achieve. The wilderness is strange. But everyone's dream is vitally important. Not just to themselves, but to each of us together. ... The future is dynamic and will be fulfilling." And on May 27, 1999, he said, "Patience and clear thought are virtues in our community and respect is the underlying root of all we attempt to do." Obviously, Winfield, PaxLair, and many others continue to carry these wise words with them to this very day.
